We have lotsa great competitions for you, like the Demo Compo, Intro Compo, Tracked Music Compo, Streamed Music Compo, Graphics Compo, Wild Compo, Fun Compos and a Surprise Compo at the partyplace. For the first time in the history of Buenzli, we also offer a competition for alternative platforms (not PCs). For gaming freaks we offer an official game related competition: Leveldesign Compo.

Attention: The PC-specs are probably subject to change (they will not go lower though).

The PC Demo Competition [what is a demo?]
Hardware: AMD Athlon 1900 XP+ (1.66Ghz) computer, 256 MB RAM, GeForce 4mx or Radeon 9500pro class graphics card, Soundblaster sound card
Supported operating system: Win32 (Win98/Win2k).
If this doesn't suit you, bring along your equipment. But remember to have either a VGA-output, a cinch or a scart connector to connect to the beamer
The demo must have a title, a file_id.diz and an infofile.
Pure animation players will be rejected.
Note that you may do test runs on the competition machine

The PC 64k-Intro Competition [what is an intro?]
Size limit: 64kb
Hardware: AMD Athlon 1900 XP+ (1.66Ghz) computer, 256 MB RAM, GeForce 4mx or Radeon 9500pro class graphics card, Soundblaster sound card
Supported operating system: Win32 (Win98/Win2k).
If this doesn't suit you, bring along your equipment. But remember to have either a VGA-output, a cinch or a scart connector to connect to the beamer
The intro must have a title, a file_id.diz and an infofile
Note that you may do test runs on the competition machine

The Wild Competition [what could a wild demo be?]
In case you're doing some kind of animation, the following formats are allowed: DVD, DIVX, MPEG, AVI or MOV (preferably not, this sucks)
If this doesn't suit you, bring along your own equipment.
It must have a title
Everything is allowed (you could for example get on stage and sing a song).

The Alternative Demo/Intro Competition [info]
Hardware: Bring your own hardware to run your demo/intro production. The more alternative the better! But remember to have either a VGA-output or provide something like an SVideo- or composite connector to connect to the beamer
The production must have a title, a file_id.diz and an infofile.
Note that you may do test runs with your machine connected to the beamer.

The Graphics Competition [what graphics do you want?]
Allowed formats: JPG, GIF or PNG
If you have alternative formats (like C64-pictures etc.) you should bring your own hardware. But remember to have either a VGA-output or provide something like an SVideo- or composite connector to connect to the beamer.
Max. 800*600 (beamer limit) 24 Bit
You'll need to bring at least three significat steps of the modeling/painting process
The picture must have a title, a file_id.diz and you have to declare which programs you used to make the picture
Pure scans are not allowed!
Note that traced, "photoshoped" and pixelled pictures are in the same competition.

The Tracked Music Competition [what is tracked music?]
Size limit: 1.44MB [contact Unlock if you don't like that]
Allowed formats: MOD, S3M, XM, SKM, IT, MT2, MTM, RNS (Renoise), SID, ..
No VST-Plugins allowed
It has to be playable with a free available player (f.e. NO Rebirth). We'll use the latest XMPlay, MadTracker, Renoise or WinAmp for replaying (format dependant)
If the format isn't supported by us (we support SKM, XM, MOD, S3M and IT), you have to bring along your own (but free available) player.
Must be playable on standard hardware. For chiptunes (f.e. SID or AdLib) you should bring the necessary hardware.
Songs that exceed 5 minutes will be faded out after that time
Your tune must have a title, a file_id.diz and you have to declare which programs you used to make the song

The Streamed Music Competition [tell me more]
Your tune has to be MP3/OGG-encoded.
If this doesn't suit you, bring along your equipment (like a different freely available player or something).
Songs that exceed 5 minutes will be faded out after that time
It must have a title, a file_id.diz and you have to declare which programs you used to make the song
Your audience wants to be able to dance to your music, so make it rock.

The prizes depend a lot on our sponsors, but you can be sure to get nice things like hardware, money and fame - if you win. Money prizes will be paid out in Euro. Remember: You don't take part because of the prize money, do you?

There are some general rules about the compo, please make sure you read them:
If a competition has less than 3 entries, we might cancel it.
The rules may be modified any time by the Buenzli staff.
We will release every entry at the party (upload to scene.org and various other FTP sites) unless the competition where your entry was supposed to take part in is cancelled.
It's good if the creator of an entry is a visitor of Buenzli (to give us the possibility to contact him in case of troubles with the entry), however, it's not necessary. We take email submissions. Email submission will be disqualfied in case of troubles and errors with replaying the entry.
If a competition has too many entries, we'll do a preselection based on the subjective quality.

Send your entries to our competitions by email to unlock@vantage.ch! If you have bigger stuff like Wild-Videos and such, contact Unlock and think of a way on how to transfer your entry.

Email submission will be disqualfied in case of troubles and errors with replaying the entry.

In case your email submitted entry wins a price and you're not at the partyplace, we won't give the price away and you can't get it later or something.

Leveldesign [what's that?]
Design a level for your favourite game (doesn't have to be a 3D-egoshooter, there are also level designer for other games, like Tony Hawks 3, ...)
You will play your level on the bigscreen
Supply us with an easy-to-install version of your game (or bring your own computer which has everything installed). If you need hardware other than a PC, bring it with you.
Provide at least 3 steps of the design process. We need to be sure that it was you creating the level.

Surprise Competition
The topic of this competition will be given out somewhen during the party. Remember, it's a surprise competition. You will have enough time to create a nice entry that will make you famous.
